These are my links for November 11th through November 18th:
- The 7 Harsh Realities of Social Media Marketing | Copyblogger – I love this post for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it says what no one else will. This is a great read for those just dipping their toes in the social media sphere and for those who need some reminders.
- Successful Measurement Starts With Business Objectives – This recap from the PRSA International Conference session featuring Shonali Burke is great even if you didn’t get to attend the session (like me). I particularly enjoyed the focus on business objectives, which is what social media is all about anyway.
- Are companies illegally taking advantage of unpaid interns? – This brings back the debate of unpaid internships and the legality of the issue. I believe that not all unpaid internships are legit and some take advantage of the interns. I also think “intern” is a sacred word that shouldn’t be confused with a volunteer, but I digress.
- Dear Flack: How to be a great assistant – Though I never like to say out loud I’m at the bottom of the organization, it’s important to remember that when you’re starting off, you’re at the bottom. And you have to prove yourself to get to the top. This is a good reminder of how to do that.
- November 17th PRStudChat Announcement – Will you be there for the next #PRStudChat? I know I will. This post from Deidre Breakenridge offers tips, advice and what to expect for the next chat. I know I’m looking forward to it!
- Guys! Want to Meet a Girl? Go into PR. – Interesting and humorous piece about the gender gap in the public relations industry. Personally, I was reminded of this during the PRSSA Conference last week when I was one of the few gentlemen in San Diego. It’s interesting to ponder why.
- PRSA Assembly Overwhelmingly Adopts New Bylaws | PRSAY – What Do You … – In case you were not able to attend the assembly, this post recaps the important items. Most importantly, the assembly did pass the new bylaws. Though some things were left out in the bylaws, the future of PRSA can be seen in this piece.
- Huffington urges PR pros to be moral conscience – A great recap from the PRSA International Conference and Arianna Huffington’s keynote. Whether you’re liberal or conservative, her message was so bipartisan and she offered an interesting perspective. Even better was her interview with Wendell Potter. Highly recommend checking this out.
- PRSSA National Conference: Student-run PR Firms « Fresh Ideas – A great recap from my session at the PRSSA National Conference. I think a lot of professionals would be surprised at how amazing the student-run firms are, especially those that are Nationally Affiliated. I’m proud to work with them.
